Get your tickets for our first self-produced contemporary dance concert, The People Electric! This hour long show features multiple works, a cast of 9 dancers, music by local artists, and is produced and choreographed by Artistic Director Shelly Hawkins (recipient of a stART Mini Grant from The Arts Foundation of Tucson and Southern Arizona). Her newest work is an expression of feminism and identity with a stylistic nod the second wave feminist movement of the 1960s-70s, featuring 6 incredible dance artists and music by Tucson based musicians Katie Haverly and Jillian Bessett.
The show also features The Crystal Cave, a trio for three men that imagining a world undisturbed and uncorrupted, subject to the laws of nature but not the effects of humanity. The Crystal Cave is set to an original score created through improvisation, by Neo-classical pianist Anton Faynberg.
The show will be held March 15th-17th at the Scoundrel and Scamp Theater at Tucson's Historic Y. This beautifully remodeled blackbox theater provides the perfect intimate setting to experience Hawkinsdance works up close and personal. Theres no assigned seating, but there's truly not a bad seat in the house!
